Once a bargain bin staple, the Duchess of Cambridge has revived the headband just as scrunchies have made a comeback and barrettes are sure to follow. The mom of three has opted to forgo the fascinator in favor of the 80s headwear to add a little interest to some of her more conservative ensembles. Favoring thicker and padded styles, Kate has made the headband her own statement accessory.

Here we take a look at the Duchess of Cambridge’s 8 Best Headband Moments:

  1. Christmas Chic

Balking at the usual elaborate holiday headpieces and hats, Kate kept things sophisticated and simple at Christmas 2018 in a piece by Jane Taylor. The plush burgundy ‘Halo Band’ perfectly coordinated with the brunette beauty’s berry red custom coat by Catherine Walker.

2. Flower Power

The garden loving duchess proved her love for florals in a ‘Cassandra with Orchards’ headpiece for the baptism of Prince Louis. The proud mom showed off the custom white floral and pearl creation which coordinated perfectly with her Alexander McQueen ensemble at the Chapel Royal in July 2018. The important ceremony was also attended by the Middleton family and the Sussexes.

3. Disco Queen

At the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance this year, the Duchess of Cambridge looked elegant in what’s believed to be a navy Jenny Packham gown and black tights. Rather than opt for opulence in the way of big baubles or giant jewels, Kate went for a budget-friendly Zara headband featuring a tonal sparkly appliqué that  matched her Alexander McQueen crystal embellished leather handbag.

4. Hello Heartbreaker

Kate could’ve been the poster girl for a romantic Valentine’s Day ensemble with the slinky pink Stella McCartney dress and vampy red Gianvito Rossi heels she wore to Archie Harrison’s christening. The knee length dress was popular with royal watchers who found the outfit to be a bit edgier than Kate’s usual fashion fare but it was her velvet plaited straw Juliette Botterill headpiece that truly surprised.

5. Princess Pieces

While Kate’s mother and father own a company called Party Pieces, the duchess herself could start her own accessory line ‘Princess Pieces’ with her selection of luxe headbands. At the Armistice Centenary Service in 2018, Kate looked regal in a forest green Catherine Walker coat and a Jane Taylor crescent moon headband in black silk velvet.

6. Queen’s Company

Attending church at the start of the year alongside her husband Prince William, Kate looked in a merry mood in a blue Catherine Walker coat and detailed headband at Sandringham. The sporty mom wore a blue Jane Taylor piece that coordinated with her post-holiday ensemble and wasn’t quite as fussy as a fascinator.

7. Wedding Party

At a friend’s wedding in Norfolk in September 2018, Duchess Kate avoided stealing the limelight by wearing a recycled Catherine Walker coat however, she didn’t miss an opportunity to make a sartorial statement with her colorful blue floral headband from milliner Juliette Botterill. The custom piece was adorned with sculpted roses and accentuated Kate’s dazzling Kiki McDonough blue topaz earrings and necklace.

8. Seeing Spots

Long before she started wearing headbands (or Alice bands as they’re known in the UK) on the regular, Kate kept it simple with a plastic leopard piece for an Air Show in the summer of 2016 with Prince George. While at the time the headband movement hadn’t taken hold, Kate proved she was a trendsetter ahead of her time.
