While rumors and reports of turmoil and tension in the royal household have been a part of the narrative of the Sussexes life within the walls of the World of Windsor — there has never been any palace confirmation of rifts or feuds. Now, the new book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Family seeks to dispel some of the media mistruths while telling the real story of the couple and their quest for an independent life for themselves and their son. The revealing tome written by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie and published by Harper Collins is already a bestseller and will undoubtedly continue to garner interest from royal watchers and Sussex Squad fans even as its yet to hit shelves (with a release date of August 11, 2020).

Here we reveal the 5 Biggest Royal Revelations (so far) in the New Book Finding Freedom:

  1. Secret Proposal

Meghan and Harry reportedly were engaged way before the couple roasted their infamous “engagement chicken.” Meghan, a longtime fan of the Barefoot Contessa’s delicious chicken recipe –claimed she and Harry were betrothed over a cozy dinner at home but the book reveals the twosome were actually already set to say ‘I Do.’ In fact, Meghan secretly revealed their committed coupledom with a ‘Husband’ shirt at the Invictus Games in Toronto. The book claims Harry popped the question in August 2017 which coincidentally was the time the prince took his beloved on a romantic safari in Kenya for her birthday. Perhaps the lovebirds agreed to wed under the African sky?

2. Open Invitation from the Queen

While many speculate that the duke and duchess are determined to establish themselves in the states and not return to the royal fold, the book makes mention of the fact that the Queen has saved a spot for Harry and Meghan in her heart and home (and kingdom). According to Scobie and Durand, the Queen made the generous offer to let them play another Game of Thrones should they chose to resume life as senior royals over a roast lunch

3. Pet Pula

While there was great speculation about the name of Harry and Meghan’s adopted black lab–with many believing the pooch to be called ‘Oz’–the new tell-all reveals the couple’s dog is actually named Pula. The royal pair chose the name to honor the place where they fell in love as the name is the currency of Botswana. In addition, Pula means rain in Setswana and is often a term used to wish others well.

4. Fast Fairytale

Harry and Meghan reportedly were already exchanging ‘I love yous’ just three months after meeting. After a mere two dates at Soho House the pair were seriously smitten. An excerpt from the book reads, “Three months into their relationship, a Meghan friend said, they had already begun swapping the words ‘I love you.’ It was Harry who said it first, but Meghan immediately replied, ‘I love you, too.’ From there it didn’t take long for them to begin talking in non-oblique terms about their future.”

As she was introduced to Harry’s family, the book reveals that Meghan tried to make a good impression and opted to gift the Duchess of Cambridge a soft-leather Smythson notebook. In 2017, the former Suits star met with her future sister-in-law (just four months before marrying into the family). According to Finding Freedom, the gift was a success, “Meghan bought a present for the duchess, who had celebrated her birthday just a day earlier. The soft leather Smythson notebook helped to break the ice, as did Meghan’s cooing over then 20-month-old Charlotte.”
