The Duchess of Cambridge gathered with the royal family to say their farewell to the patriarch of the family — Prince Philip. Credited for his candor and caustic since of humor — the devoted family man and consort of Queen Elizabeth II was a highly respected military veteran, sports enthusiast and pilot. In addition, the Duke of Edinburgh was a passionate conservationist who spent his free time sailing as well as riding horses and playing polo and cricket; he also collected artwork including contemporary cartoons and had a secret talent for painting– the duke produced numerous oil paintings and even used his wife as the subject for his creations. It’s believed Philip attended more than 22,000 royal engagements and was patron of more than 780 organizations during his time serving the Crown. In 1946, Philip married his third cousin, Princess Elizabeth who was just 21-years-old at the time. The couple had four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In 2017, the Queen and Philip celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

It was an especially somber and solemn day for the royal family who paid their final respects to the duke on Saturday April 17th.

The grandchildren and spouses of the duke gathered outside St. George’s Chapel in Windsor to say their final farewell including the Duchess of Cambridge.

The duchess was pictured inside the chapel before the service.

Inside the church the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent time in prayer.

Duchess Kate was also seen bowing her head in the church.

In a show of support and solidarity with the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge wore jewelry pieces on loan from the monarch including the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings — the earrings feature pearls which were a wedding gift to the Queen from Prince Philip.

The duchess also wore the Japanese Four-Row pearl choker. Kate previously wore the necklace for a party celebrating Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary. Princess Diana was also loaned the necklace for one of her first royal engagements at a state dinner with Prince Claus of the Netherlands.

For the service, the Duchess wore a Catherine Walker ‘beau tie’ coat, Roland Mouret dress and carried her Jimmy Choo celeste clutch. Kate also wore a Philip Treacy velvet veil headpiece she previously wore for Remembrance Sunday in 2019.
