The Duchess of Cambridge married Prince William in April 2011 in an unexpected pair of earrings. No chandelier diamond statement earrings, no dangling crystal teardrops or cultured pearls — instead the duchess opted for acorns. While to be fair her Robinson Pelham diamond oak leaf and acorn earrings were more luxe than most wedding accessories at over $20,000 — Kate was making a sly statement not only about her love and loyalty to her family by wearing an acorn (symbolic of the Middleton coat of arms) but her intrinsic devotion to all things nature. In fact, Kate has long been a bit of a ‘wild child’ with a deep love of the great outdoors. Since her wedding to a future King, Kate has worn a variety of woodsy accessories — from baby shamrocks to ferns to petal earrings.
