This year the Princess of Wales is expected to attend the BAFTA Awards on February 16th at London’s Royal Festival Hall — the venue within Southbank Centre will play home to the dazzling 78th British Academy Film Awards.

Predicted to be a part of Kate’s “comeback” to royal life and a gradual return to work duties, this red carpet event is a special one for the Wales family as Prince William is president of BAFTA — a position he has held since 2010.

Long considered the ‘British Oscars’ this award ceremony marks one of Kate’s most glamorous appearances each year.

Here are 6 Times Kate Middleton Wowed at the BAFTA Awards:

2011

Kate looked like a real life fairytale princess in this pastel chiffon gown by Alexander McQueen. Appearing glamorous fresh off her wedding to William just a few months prior, Kate was every inch the glowing newlywed in this timeless Grecian gown in soft lilac.

Worn for the BAFTA gala in July 2011 in Los Angeles, the princess solidified her starry status on the red carpet in this romantic and regal gown.

2017

Forgoing her usual airy and dreamy dresses for a more modern take, the princess was a style standout for the BAFTA Awards in February 2017 in London at Royal Albert Hall.

Appearing elegant and edgy in an off-the-shoulder black dress punctuated by a floral motif, the princess was truly the belle of the ball.

The ever-so-gothic evening gown was a design courtesy of Alexander McQueen — the design house created a bespoke version of their Long Tiered Violet Jacquard Dress which featured a sheer corset.

The most striking part of her ensemble for the evening affair? Large pink teardrop earrings outlined in diamonds and rendered in gold. Kate paired the statement drops with a classic chignon updo.

2018

Expecting Prince Louis, the Middleton Mama-to-be looked effortlessly elegant in a moody dark emerald dress hailing from Jenny Packham called the ‘Lucerne.’

Kate strode the red caret in February 2018 wearing the empire waist dress which delicately accentuated her growing baby bump. A black velvet belt with a bow offered a playful dash of femininity.

The softly pleated gown was a smart choice as it’s flowing silhouette demonstrated refined glamour and a hint of mysterious allure.

Kate finished the look with a dazzling emerald jewelry suite featuring an emerald drop necklace and matching studs.

2019

The princess was angelic as she glided over the red carpet in 2019. Appearing ethereal and captivating in a Grecian-inspired ivory gown by Alexander McQueen, she was serious #stylegoals

Kate played with a bridal sartorial story — looking flawless in her white dress with its floral appliqué and swishy sweeping skirt.

The royal beauty also kept the look aligned with a Cinderella theme by wearing silver slippers (or rather glittery Jimmy Choo pumps). She finished the look with dangling pearl earrings hailing from Princess Diana.

2020

Proving she’s a sustainable minded style maven, the princess recycled this Alexander McQueen dress embroidered with gilded hibiscus flowers for the annual awards ceremony in February 2020.

Demonstrating her eco-credentials as well as a bit of upcycling, Kate gave her dress, seen last in Maylasia circa 2012, a new life by changing the transparency of the sleeves (from slim and sheer to billowy and opaque).

The empire waist dress with its light-catching gold detailing was no match for Kate’s Anya Hindmarch ‘Marano’ Dancer gold clutch which sparkled in the beams of a flurry of flashbulbs. Plus, her gold glitter Romy pumps from Jimmy Choo also offered plenty of shine.

For additional accessories, Kate donned her $15,000 Van Cleef & Arpels clover necklace and matching earrings.

2023

The princess was in fine form after a two year hiatus from the BAFTA red carpet following the Covid-19 pandemic when she appeared alongside Prince William on February 19th, 2023.

Hitting the red carpet in a recycled McQueen from 2019, Kate looked elegant in her replayed white gown wherein she removed the rosette at the shoulder for a new swingy fabric drape.

The chiffon dress was a hit with royal watchers who loved the add-on of dramatic black opera gloves from Cornelia James ‘Melissa’ for a bit of Old Hollywood movie star glam.

Plus, Kate raised the bar with statement earrings from Zara — the golden cascading floral earrings with shiny metal petals and sparkly Austrian crystals — caused a fashion flurry. Thanks to the ‘Kate Effect’ the statement sparklers quickly and swiftly sold out.
