While Princess Kate is often found in countryside classics namely Barbour and Blundstones, she’s still inclined to dial up the glamour for select events in the royal calendar including the annual Royal Variety Performance. Having attended the starry event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Royal Variety charity on four occasions previously, the mom of three never fails to impress at the glamorous entertainment extravaganza.

Here are All of Kate Middleton’s Best Royal Variety Fashion Moments:

November 2014

For Kate’s first attendance at the Royal Variety Performance, which is watched by 152 million TV viewers worldwide (making it the most successful and longest running entertainment program in the world), the princess donned a DVF Zarita lace gown. Featuring a subtle trumpet skirt, sheer 3/4 lace sleeves and a fitted bodice with a boat neckline and scalloped lace eyelash detail plus a subtle v-shaped back, this evening gown was a standout in Kate’s collection of formalwear. At the time, the princess was five months pregnant with Princess Charlotte but looked calm and comfortable throughout the broadcast. Singers Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding made their Royal Variety debut at the evening affair.

November 2017

Clad in an icy powder blue Jenny Packham, the princess was expecting Prince Louis when she stepped out to listen to musical acts like James Blunt, the Killers and Seal at the Palladium Theatre in London in November 2017. The couple arrived late for the evening show following a security concern at the London Underground at Oxford Circus station; the West-End area of London was exceptionally busy due to Black Friday shopping and protests in the area. Still, the then-Cambridge couple looked unfazed as they enjoyed special acts from musicals like Annie, Cirque du Soleil Ovo and 42nd Street. Kate’s cool blue dress had layers of illusion tulle covered in floral crystals — the ‘Elsa’ (from the Disney movie Frozen) dubbed gown shimmered in the Royal Box. Kate’s baby blue dress also had a special meaning as she was expecting Prince Louis the following spring.

November 2019

The princess looked effortlessly elegant at the Palladium Theatre in London in a bespoke floor length black lace gown by Alexander McQueen in November 2019. Having all the features of a Hollywood era gown, the stunning dress was designed with a nude lining covered in black lace fabric with a subtle sweetheart neckline trimmed in black velvet. The alluring black and beige gown felt formal but not stuffy and made many onlookers do a double take. Kate and William had a ‘date night’ together and listened to acts from Lewis Capaldi, Harry Connick Jr. and Robbie Williams while nestled in the VIP seating.

November 2021

Ready for the holiday season, Kate looked enchanting in this green sequin dress at Royal Albert Hall in November 2021. For the special occasion, the princess recycled her Jenny Packham ‘Tenille’ gown worn for a royal tour to Pakistan in 2019. The embellished satin gown in forest green is adorned with stunning green sequins, a beaded waist and has strategically placed crystals covering the bodice. The elegant ‘mermaid’ dress also boasts internal padded shoulders, a floor sweeping train and cuffs covered in sequin.

The glamorous Tenille/Georgia dress has also been worn by the princess in pale pink and has appeared on Crown Princess Mary and actress Renee Zellweger.
