The Duchess of Sussex stunned in a slinky halter dress for the 2024 ESPY Awards held on Thursday evening in Los Angeles. Though the mom of two skipped the red carpet, she did sit front row alongside her husband Prince Harry during the awards ceremony.
Meghan’s good friend Serena Williams hosted the star-studded ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) event which celebrates the best athletes and teams from the previous year. The sporting awards event also honors courageous and inspiring athletes.
ESPN announced that Prince Harry would be the recipient of the Pat Tillman Award in recognition of his service in the British Armed Forces and for his work as founder of the Invictus Games. The California based royal received a standing ovation when the award was presented.
The Sussexes attended the 32nd annual ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in their West Coast hometown — marking their first public appearance since their unofficial tour of Nigeria in May.
Meghan’s ivory dress sent royal watchers swooning — many were struck by the similarities with her Stella McCartney lily white silk halter dress which she wore for her wedding reception at Frogmore House in May 2018. Revisiting her bridal style was a way to honor her and Harry’s romance and a tribute to their marriage. She was sartorially supporting the duke as he earned the prestigious new honor.
According to Marie Claire, Meghan’s current stylist Jamie Mizrahi was reportedly responsible for her new couture gown.
Meghan’s ethereal gown has a silhouette that has become a favorite of the former Suits star — she has recently worn halter looks from Heidi Merrick and a sleeveless sweater tank from Annie Bing.
The duchess paired the angelic custom cowl neck halter dress from Oscar de la Renta with a pair of strappy sandals from Celine (the Black Patent Sharp Sandals); the 42-year-old also sported a fresh pedicure with ivory polish on her toes. Meghan’s new sandals feature black patent leather straps and glitter details.
For their glamorous date night, Prince Harry donned a similarly sophisticated ensemble — a Giorgio Armani suit and tie.
While the duchess let her elegant gown do most of the talking, she did accessorize with a statement ring on her index finger featuring interlocked mixed medal bands. The piece was identified as the RODI large Cassandra Ring with white, yellow and rose gold intertwining bands including a diamond loop.
The American Riviera Orchard founder also appeared to wear her Lorraine Schwartz diamond and onyx stud earrings sans black jacket. She’s previously worn the emerald cut diamond studs without the onyx border on three other occasions including for a day of polo in Santa Barbara. In addition, the duchess rewore her beloved Cartier Love bracelet in yellow gold.
UPDATED: At the time of writing, there is some confusion as to whether Meghan’s dress is bespoke Oscar de la Renta or from Los Angeles label Staud Clothing.
Meghan possibly donned Staud’s Giuseppe Backless Cowl Halter Gown. The open back dress hails from the brand’s Spring 2024 runway. The minimalist and modern dress is still available in limited sizes at Neiman Marcus, Net-a-Porter and Nordstrom.
The Giuseppe dress is a relaxed high cowl halter gown made out of crepe with a draped neckline and maxi length. Retailers describe the color as cream, sun faded daisy and pastel yellow.
