The Princess of Wales is not inclined to raid the royal jewelry vault often — she loves recycling tiaras, sourcing budget baubles and wearing minimal but meaningful accessories. Yet, lately the mom of three has ditched her dedication to simplicity and modesty and opted for more jewelry decadence.
In fact, Kate has added yet another new band to her growing luxurious four-piece wedding ring set. Now, the princess wears a five-piece ring stack.
At recent royal events including the funeral for Katherine, Duchess of Kent on September 16th, the future Queen was photographed with five bands on her ring finer.
Along with her beloved blue Ceylon sapphire ring, Kate donned her usual set of thinner and more modest bands. The princess wore her Welsh gold wedding band, her 18 karat white gold Annoushkha Eclipse eternity ring and her Étincelle de Cartier ring in platinum boasting alternating sapphires and diamonds. The princess also wore a new unidentified platinum band.
Kate’s new supersized stack could have various symbolic meanings — perhaps the princess wears five rings to represent all five members of her immediate family? Perhaps the bands symbolize her cancer recovery and were gifted from Prince William? Or maybe the princess wishes to accent her iconic sapphire ring with extra sparkle?
Kate’s glittery rings already have sentimental significance — her Annoushka band was a gift from Prince William following the birth of Prince George in 2013, her gold court band was handcrafted from Wartski (commonly given to royal brides) and was a wedding day jewelry addition, plus her Cartier sparkler was reportedly presented to the princess from her husband at the end of her chemotherapy treatment.
For a time, the princess would wear the stack sans sapphire ring but lately has included Princess Diana’s sparkler back in rotation. The total five-piece set is reportedly worth over $500,000.
