As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to have truly kept their promise to ‘hit the ground running’ the royal twosome have yet another engagement today supporting the Commonwealth. The couple are attending the ‘Your Commonwealth’ Youth Challenge Reception at Marlborough House in London.
The evening reception has the Duke and Duchess of Sussex meeting with young leaders from across the Commonwealth nations as well as representatives from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga. Today’s reception is hosted by Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
This will be the first occasion to mark the Duke’s new role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador. As Prince Harry has said:
“I, together with my wife Meghan, look forward to convening young people from around The Commonwealth to hear your ideas, work with you to build platforms for you to collaborate and form partnerships, as we travel around in our work”
For today’s event, Duchess Meghan is wearing a yellow Brandon Maxwell Midi Dress. Maxwell has dressed celebrities like Blake Lively and Michelle Monaghan in similar shaded jumpsuits and dresses. Maxwell also works as a stylist for Lady Gaga.
The bright yellow dress is a departure from Meghan’s wardrobe of muted pink and blush tone ensembles. The duchess wore her hair in a chic chignon for the evening and added diamond earrings. The bright and summery dress was quickly likened to a Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn style. Meghan’s friend Amal Clooney also wore a similar mustard colored sheath by Stella McCartney for the royal wedding.
The slim sheath dress was with a flattering bodycon fit is ever-inch a modern princess dress. Losing the austerity of court shoes, dress coats and pantyhose, Duchess Meghan looked more at ease and comfortable in a frock reminiscent of the couture fashion from her acting days.
