The Princess of Wales loves saving money on cute dresses, trendy accessories and even her kids’ Halloween costumes. Known for shopping at local grocery marts near her home in Norfolk, the mom of three is often spotted at budget pharmacies, high street houseware stores and affordable apparel outlets.
Around the time Prince William wed the brunette beauty in 2011, a source told US Weekly that Kate’s favorite shop for clothing was budget retail chain TK Maxx (the UK version of America’s TJ Maxx).
As the princess was recently spotted at her local Windsor Farm Shop, it’s clear the Kate loves to play commoner and seek out food, fashion and other frugal finds in person.

1. Gap
The princess has worn patterned pants, boyfriend shirts and cable knit turtleneck sweaters from this casual clothing company. In 2014 driven by Range Rover from Kensington Palace (a total of just 500 yards), she spent just under a half hour browsing Baby Gap for a few new outfits for Prince George (8 months old at the time). Kate picked up baby clothing including a green checked onesie with a collar, striped cotton pants and a soft grey snapsuit.
2. Waitrose
The princess has been a fan of this supermarket chain for years and often does her grocery shopping in Anglesey or in Reading at the local Waitrose.
3. Tesco
Kate was spotted buying milk, meat, juice, potatoes and Kellogg’s Start Cereal while shopping this British grocery chain in Holyhead, North Wales in November 2011. The princess has frequently been spotted at the food mart over the years.
4. Jigsaw
Before she was a senior royal, Kate once worked for this British womenswear company part-time, thus, it’s no great surprise that she’s still dedicated to their clothing catalog. The princess has worn silver earrings, navy puddle pants, green culottes, silk blouses and cashmere crewneck sweaters from the brand.
5. Zara
Spotted getting a little retail therapy at this Spanish fashion chain, the princess often visits the popular women’s clothing store in person. She frequently wears Zara blazers, houndstooth and animal print midi skirts as well as summer dresses by the fast-fashion company.
6. Zara Home
With around 408 stores in 44 countries, Kate can get her furniture fix from Zara home around the world. The princess was spotted shopping at the retailer in October 2013 in Chelsea wearing an ecru boyfriend cashmere cardigan from the brand as well as a Jack Wills dotted blouse and her favorite grey plimsoll ‘Bibi’ trainers from Mint Velvet.
7. Windsor Farm Shop
Browsing the bread aisle alongside her husband, Kate kept it casual for a visit to this produce and meat market. The princess was photographed in mid-March 2024 food shopping ahead of the weekend rugby game at the local farm stand which offers coffee at the on-site cafe as well as fruit, flowers, deli items and fresh pies.
8. Peter Jones (John Lewis & Partners)
Browsing this large London department store in December 2015 ahead of Christmas, Kate looked like a mom on a mission at this popular seven-floor retail emporium. Later, she visited the Sloane Square shop in February 2022 wearing a Massimo Dutti coat and Blundstone boots. Owned by John Lewis & Partners, this clothing store holds two royal warrants.
9. John Lewis
Regularly spotted on shopping sprees at this high-end department store chain, Kate loves a fashion find at this clothing palace. The royal has been spotted in faux fur trim gloves, tights, dresses and cowl neck sweaters from the retailer.
10. Blue Almonds Baby Boutique
The British born beauty spent time in London’s South Kensington neighborhood buying baby gear at this stylish shop. Offering a curated selection of nursery essentials, furnishings and newborn gifts, the princess and her mom Carole Middleton left the boutique with a wicker crib in July 2013.
11. Lululemon
Known for their selection of athletic apparel and modern minimalist workout clothing, Kate has long been a fan of this active apparel and loungewear company. The princess visited the brand’s store in Chelsea in February 2016 wearing leggings and a Temperley coat and turtleneck. She also wore her Asics Gel Oberon pink trainers for the shopping trip. On royal duty Kate has been spotted in a Lululemon Define jacket and Chargefeel sneakers in white.
12. Harvey Nichols
In the fall of 2012, Princess Kate wore a black coat, dress and heels for a stop at this British luxury department store. The princess did not appear to leave the shopping destination with any new purchases.
13. Whistles
A long time fan of this modern fashion chain, the princess has worn the brand’s frill blouses, cropped jackets, cardigans, shirtdresses and pleated skirts. The royal fashionista was spotted doing some pre-wedding shopping at the store on King’s Road and regularly emerges with bags of new fashion finds.
14. Boots
In June 2011 Kate was photographed running errands in London and was seen carrying a Boots pharmacy bag. The health and beauty drugstore is popular with the Middleton ladies as Kate’s mother Carole also was seen getting supplies at the store on April 23rd 2018 just hours after the birth of Prince Louis.
15. Russell & Bromley
The princess was spotted in a jean skirt and belted utility jacket for a day of shopping in February 2007 where she was seen exiting the British shoe store. Nowadays, Kate wears blade pumps, slingback raffia heels and espadrilles from the brand.
16. Marks and Spencer
Offering a large selection of chic and contemporary clothing at affordable prices, M&S has been one of the princess’ favorite spots for wardrobe basics like tweed blazers, ribbon trainers, smocked waist dresses and two-piece pantsuits.
17. The Range
Just before Christmas in 2018, Kate was photographed holiday shopping at this bargain store offering everything from bedding to garden supplies as well as cleaning products, food items and pet care. A fellow shopper said Kate bought “pictures, children’s books, and artist materials.”
18. Sainsbury’s
Browsing Halloween costumes and decor, Kate was spotted with a bodyguard looking at the goodies at the supermarket chain in Hardwick, Cambridgeshire on October 24th, 2019. The future Queen used the self-checkout for her last-minute Halloween finds.
19. Waterstones
Selecting novels about the military as well as history themed tomes, Kate shopped this book and stationary store in London in March 2020. For the off-duty outing, she wore her Mulberry Paddington coat and donned her Smythson crossbody bag.
