The Princess of Wales loves her Barbour coats — so much so that she regularly wears the sleek raincoats on and off royal duty.

Kate’s younger brother James Middleton even posted a private photograph of the Middleton family dressed for a rainy outing all wearing their own Barbour field jackets in his book: Meet Ella

The princess owns at least 7 Barbour coats that she’s regularly worn for rainy English weather as well as hiking and outdoor engagements during royal appearances.

Luckily, her most iconic Barbour Waxed Defense Jacket is still available in limited sizes.

The olive colored field jacket is cut from Barbour’s classic 8oz waxed cotton and ensures warmth and protection against the elements. A perfect outerwear choice for country walks, the jacket boasts Barbour’s signature aesthetic and is complete with shoulder epaulettes, a tartan lining and four front pockets for convenience. It’s finished neatly with subtle Barbour branding by the left pocket.

The warm tartan lining is a bonus and four stud-close frontal utility pockets add character and charm. A wardrobe must-have, this timeless jacket never gets soppy thanks to its durable wax coating and strong construction.

Kate has been wearing the jacket since March 2012 when stepped out in the topper for a walk in Kensington Gardens. She recently appeared again in the coat for countryside engagements in Northern Ireland in October 2025.

The past season jacket is currently available at Backcountry and in limited sizes at Zappos
