The Princess of Wales loves a good blue topaz accessory. From oversized earrings to delicate necklaces, she’s frequently found in the sky blue stone.
Revered for imparting a sense of calm, confidence and clarity, Kate’s blue topaz accessories have a striking and brilliant shine — the stone is popular for commemorating special occasions like getting a new job or relocating to a new city. The gems can also be used as a gift for fourth wedding anniversaries or worn as a birthstone by those with birthdays in November.
The glacial shaded gem is one of Kate’s go-to jewelry pieces for significant and special occasions — she enjoys wearing topaz stones when she’s celebrating important milestones or traveling abroad on royal tours.
Here are 5 of Kate Middleton’s Favorite Blue Topaz Jewelry Moments:
1. Kiki McDonough Eden Blue Topaz Flower Necklace
A particularly special necklace in her jewelry box, this stunning pendant features a blue topaz flower surrounded by pave set diamonds in 18 carat white gold. (The diamond is approximately 0.13ct and the blue topaz is 3.85ct).
The princess debuted the $2000 floral necklace from the brand’s Eden collection in July 2017. (Previously, she had stepped out in the brand’s Eden Citrine flower drop earrings in Northern Ireland in June 2016). She’s since worn the piece on three more occasions including for Trooping the Colour 2018 and Anzac Day Service in 2019.
The accessory is especially sentimental for the princess as her mother Carole Middleton and sister Pippa Middleton own the identical necklace.
2. Kiki McDonough Apollo Blue Topaz Pendant Necklace
The princess was first spotted in this Kiki piece while visiting Scotland in May 2021. The circular pendant necklace is made of 18 carat gold with a central blue topaz stone and four surrounding mini diamonds.
The round pendant has the appearance of a compass and hangs from a delicate gold chain. Princess Kate isn’t the only royal fan of the intricate pendant necklace — Queen Camilla owns the same piece in silver — the Kiki Apollo Mini Blue Topaz and Diamond Pendant in White Gold.
Priced around $2500, the airy accessory perfectly coordinates with many of Kate’s cornflower blue formalwear ensembles.
3. Kiki Lola Blue Topaz Earrings
Worn since her very early days as working member of the monarchy, these dazzling blue topaz hoops have been Kate’s favorite for fun receptions, sports award ceremonies and palace garden parties.
The $4500 earrings feature 11 blue topaz gems each with tiny diamonds stationed between each stone. The blue stones hanging at the bottom of each hoop are smaller than the higher stones.
When the princess first donned the hoops, the piece was a bespoke creation from the British fine jewelry house Kiki McDonough, later the accessories designer added them to her Lola collection.
4. Kiki McDonough Peridot and Blue Topaz Earrings
These delicate studs feature an oval peridot green gemstone nestled up against two smaller peridots all atop a large blue topaz oval stone. The classic colorblock earrings are set in 18 carat yellow gold.
The princess has worn the vibrant $2000 earrings on one occasion for a Tusk charity event with a dove grey embellished shift dress from Matthew Williamson.
5. Kiki McDonough Blue Topaz and Diamond Drop Earrings
A pair of opulent and mesmerizing drop earrings — these sparklers feature blue topaz oval cushion cut stones set in 18 carat white gold.
The princess has donned the $5200 earrings on a total of nine occasions since their debut in May 2017 in Luxembourg. She recently wore the extravagant earrings to Royal Ascot in June 2019.
