Often residing at their Anmer Hall home in the picturesque village of Norfolk — Princess Kate and Prince and William love their countryside retreat. Far from the hustle and bustle of London (over 100 miles), their cozy cottage home is nestled in a remote and scarcely populated parish (with the number of residents in 2021 at just 63 people in a total of 29 households).
Given to the Wales as a wedding gift by Queen Elizabeth II, Kate and William’s Georgian bolthole was built in the 19th century. The three-story home has a total of 10 bedrooms (one being the attic). Video meetings of the couple show that the walls within the property are painted in a soft cream color and furnishings are also in a muted palette. The cozy sanctuary is reportedly filled with antiques and contemporary decor including gilt framed pictures, houseplants and floor to ceiling bookshelves.
The Wales made a large renovation of the property before moving in — the roof was retiled, a sunlit garden was added to one side of the home along with the installation of a pergola covered patio. In addition, the family are believed to have built a conservatory, an astroturf tennis court and designed a rerouted driveway for additional privacy. It’s also believed there are multiple fireplaces and a glass ceiling in the dining area of their country compound.
Dark brown accent walls, clocks and built-in bookshelves have been spotted in Prince William’s Zoom meetings with rugby players.
In addition, the prince has held meetings where framed family photos, cherry armoires and wood console tables in the background. Plus, William and Kate’s engagement portrait as well as George and Charlotte’s school photo is displayed. Antique lamps, brushed gold frames and large ceramic vases also decorate the family abode.
And pictures of Princess Charlotte released by the couple through the years show the young royal in a wicker chair perched on a colorful pink rug inside the countryside nest. The royal toddler was also photographed in an oversized check club chair for her first birthday portrait.
Princess Kate’s home office is outfitted with a hardwood writing desk, window seat, scalloped curtains, painted accent cabinet, upholstered desk chair and mini pink French armchair (likely for Charlotte). The princess has a collection of Penguin UK Clothbound Classics on her desk with a number of titles from Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and William Shakespeare.
The Wales refuge is filled with limestone colored couches, sturdy accent armchairs, porcelain planters, damask throw pillows, floral ceramic vases and mahogany furniture.
Outside their Sandringham estate home the couple have a swimming pool, climbing wall, playhouse and large wooden seesaw on their property. They also have a large garden and pond as well as tree swing.
The family enjoy spending time at Holkham beach on the North Norfolk Coast and have been seen in various family videos walking along the beach near the local pinewoods. Described as one of the most “unspoiled stretches of sand in the country” — the picturesque beach offers visitors stunning water views (it has a bay), boasts a nature reserve, pine forest and is an animal friendly beach space (with dogs and horses allowed).
The Wales’ most special and memorable moments have been spent picnicking near the sandy shore and chasing the waves as the tide rushes in and out.
The heir and his children have filmed their family adventures near the seashore on numerous occasions including — for Kate and William’s 10th anniversary video, Prince Louis’ fourth birthday photos and the family’s latest Father’s Day tribute in 2024.
This month the princess’ released a heartfelt and emotional film taken by Will Warr detailing news that she’s now cancer-free. Kate, William and their children along with the family dog– black cocker spaniel Orla, were spotted playing near the tall grasses of Holkham beach. The nearby meadows with swaying blonde grasses offer the perfect spot for the family to enjoy some private time together.
Though the bucolic beach is still a 35 minute drive from their Anmer Hall home, it’s thought that the Wales frequently make the trek. Around the area, the locals love Holkham for its easy footpaths which take visitors straight to the natural stretches of white sand, thick marshes and coastal dunes.
Famously featured in the closing scenes from the film “Shakespeare in Love” — the dreamy seashore offers plenty of room for recreation and play. The Wales have reportedly been spotted sailing on a yacht on the water not far from the shoreline.
When they can’t spend time at the local beach which was beloved by the late Queen and her corgis (who had a special private pathway for beach access), the princess loves visiting Burnham Market — the quaint 17th century English village in Norfolk has a delicatessen, Tuscan farm store, a tea room, beauty salon, hat shop, fish and chips restaurant and cozy bookstore. The princess has previously spotted at Mable’s Paint Pot which offers visitors a chance to play artist and decorate ceramic crafts as well as nibble on various candies and sweet treats.
