The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent time in Austin, Texas meeting locals, attending conferences and making special outings. Meghan wore a few symbolic sartorial pieces as well as recycled a number of items from her wardrobe including designer flats and jewelry favorites. The duchess looked impeccable during the Sussexes ‘mini tour’ of the Lone Star state.
The former Suits star discussed the dangers of social media and cyberbullying alongside Brooke Shields and Katie Couric for International Women’s Day.
For the occasion, Duchess Meghan wore Giuliva Heritage’s Striped Husband Shirt made of 100% silk and designed with a light grey and beige striped print.
Drawing inspiration from classic menswear tailoring, the long sleeve shirt boasts mother of pearl buttons and is designed in Italy. Meghan paired the business button-down with the coordinating Giuliva Heritage Lena Maxi skirt — the full length skirt has a side zipper and is constructed of 100% silk with the same grey and beige pattern. Likely a tribute to her spouse Prince Harry, Meghan’s ‘Husband’ shirt recalled her first public outing with the prince at the Invictus Games in Toronto where she donned the same named shirt from Misha Nonoo. She finished the professional style with accessories from Bottega Veneta –the brand’s chunky gold Knot earrings. For footwear, she wore her beloved pointed Valentino studded flats.The past season Valentino Garvani Roman Stud Mules feature a signature gold stud detail. In addition, the slip-on shoes are made in Italy and have been in Meghan’s closet since April 2021.
At La Barbecue Restaurant in Austin on Friday March 8th, 2024, Meghan donned high waisted denim paired with a chambray shirt and lightweight blazer.
The duchess wore Aritzia’s 80s Comfy Shirt with a Heidi Merrick Zelda Blazer. Often associated with the Legend of Zelda and the Nintendo warrior princess, Meghan could’ve selected this linen jacket as the name is synonymous with royalty. She also made a shoutout to her hometown and wore the Heidi Merrick Santa Barabra black frame sunglasses. Furthermore, Meghan is believed to have worn jeans from Annie Bing called the Gavin as well as donned her favorite cap toe Chanel flats. The beige and black slingbacks have a heel height of 0.8 inches.
Later, Meghan also made a sartorial tribute to her mother-in-law Princess Diana and donned The Favorite Daughter’s Diana Jacket. The minimalist modern jacket in the shade midnight has a scoop neck and is defined by a trio of front buttons. The brand is owned by Erin and Sara Foster (Prince Harry and the duchess are good friends with Sara and Erin’s father David Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee.)
Finally, Meghan and Harry spent time with families and friends of the victims of the Robb Elementary mass shooting. The couple personally visited with Uvalde families at the KABOOM! event which together with the Archewell Foundation has developed positive and supportive community projects including building new playgrounds and play spaces for children.
For the outing, Meghan wore a Heidi Merrick Marish georgette top in black and paired the bishop sleeve shirt with Birdies Goldfinch Onyx pointed toe flats. The goldfinch bird is symbolically associated with letting go of hatred and anger; as an animal totem the bird represents beauty, resiliency, dignity and truth. Spiritually, the bird is thought to bring prosperity, good fortune and positivity. Meghan accessorized the casual all-black ensemble with Ariel Gordon’s Hex Diamond Tennis bracelet.
